Josh Babcock (he/him) has a PhD in Sociocultural and Linguistic Anthropology from the University of Chicago. His research studies the public life of language and race in multilingual, multicultural, multiracial Singapore. You can learn more about his work here.

Ayomide Badmus (they/them) is a student at the University of Chicago studying Anthropology and Global Studies with a minor in Human Rights. They are involved in many community building and organizing spaces including immigration and anti-policing work. During their free time, as a long-time Liverpool FC fan, Ayomide loves to watch football matches. They also love consuming foreign films with Wong Kar-Wai, Jean-Luc Godard and Pedro Almodóvar as some of their favorite directors. They can be reached on Instagram @midesonline.

Astrid Braun (she/her) is a second-year student at the University of Chicago. She is currently majoring in history, with a focus on the intersection of language, identity, and power.

Andrew Crane (he/him) is a 3rd year student in Anthropology from University College London.

Jon Hoerner (he/him) is a 4th year student in Sociology at the University of Chicago.

Teddy Sandler (she/her) is a 3rd year student in Anthropology and Art History at the University of Chicago.

Marya Tawam (she/her) is studying Philosophy at the University of Chicago, although she is interested in a variety of fields, including Anthropology and Physics. Originally from Syria, she holds her identity close to her, and spends the majority of her time away from school organizing with Students for Justice in Palestine. Through SJP she has been able to free herself from the feeling of helplessness that comes with an Arab upbringing. She also enjoys learning about the Middle East, educating herself on the imperialistic endeavors of Western nations and how they have contributed to lasting effects on minority populations, as well as discovering new music and finding small artists whose drawings can crowd her bedroom walls.

Sofia Torriente (she/her) is a 3rd year student in Anthropology and Cinema and Media Studies at the University of Chicago.

Anuli (she/her) examines race and power in the influencer economy with a focus on Black Internet celebrities and content creators in the U.S. She is the creator of the audio docuseries BLK IRL. In October 2020, Anuli led a a “Podcasting and Audio Documentary 101” workshop.

Nurul H. Rashid

Nurul (she/her) is an intersectional feminist, visual artist, and writer. Her research interests focus on images, narratives, visual and sentient bodies, feminisms, and the intersections between them in the digital world. In November 2020, Nurul gave an artist talk/overview of her role as annotator for Pulau Something, an online peer-to-peer study involving 20 cultural workers from across Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Taiwan.

Vithya Subramaniam

Vithya (she/her) is an anthropologist and playwright whose research explores the material experience of race and the nation-state. In November 2020, Vithya gave an artist talk on Tamilzhachi தமிழச்சி, a digital museum of Tamil women under construction.

Yi Hui Ho

Yi Hui (they/them) is a gelatinous blob who spends all their time either consuming or analyzing pop culture. In November 2020, Yi Hui led an introductory workshop on narrative games and the politics of queering game design.
